The Esch Cavalcade happens annually during Carnival. It’s a procession that passes our flat: well, it used to do so. This year, the route has changed. This is a pity: I took a good number of photos over the years.
Today happens to be procession day. I’m not sure I’ll take any photos, though. The advantage of the old route is that, from the flat window, we looked down on the passing cavalcade. I did not have to barge crowds, and I had a different, though hardly unique, viewpoint.
Furthermore, we were near a turn into another street, giving me an easy shot from ‘in front’ of the vehicles, were I to nip out the door and across the ratrun. This is also no longer possible: the new route is, as near as matters, a straight line.
So, now, the only option is to fight past the elbows and low–flying sweets to get a photos taking from a perfectly ordinary perspective. This doesn’t interest me. Of course, there’s always the chance that something special might happen near where I’m standing, just as there’s always the chance of a wad of hundred euro notes falling from the sky and landing at my feet.
